That's what college is for - getting as many bad decisions as possible out of the way before you're forced into the real world. I keep a checklist of 'em on the wall in my room.

Topics of the day: Filming and roadtrips
First topic, filming, stems from the final project I'm doing with two other members of my Zombies and American Identity class. We're shooting a zombie film and writing a paper on it. Given that we're working with several people who really know what they're doing as far as filming goes, I've done little more than sit and watch. This morning, I was the expert. I'm the only one of them who has any experience at all with small planes. I made the calls to the airport. I talked to the woman at the desk, who apparently hadn't been told that a bunch of college students were going to invade with cameras. And I helped explain what kind of planes we could shoot, and which we could not. It's nice to be useful.
Second, concerning road trips...I was up at 5 this morning, so I could be fed and fully awake and out at the airport at 7. Got to see the sun rising over the Organs, pinking the sky and making the highway look bright and new. Yeah, I was a little cold, tired, and not looking forward to standing outside watching Ira play director, but when I crested the hill and came out on top of the mesa, with early light coming in through the rear window and Van Halen playing, I just wanted to drive. Past the exit for the airport, past the silly little tourist stop where they sell rocks and pet cactus, and just...drive. See where that road takes me. Even more than that, I wanted to find a two-lane highway and take that one, see what tiny towns I come across. I guess I have more of my Dad in me than I thought.
